Tom Hessert III looking to Tromp “Tricky Triangle”
Mooresville, NC (June 2, 2009) - While most of the ARCA RE/MAX Series drivers have been taking some much needed time of to relax during the last two weekends off Tom Hessert has been a busy bee.
Tom started off his ARCA break with some testing at Caraway Speedway during the week before heading to Langley Speedway in Hampton, VA for the USAR Pro Cup race. While this trip didn’t exactly turn out as planned it was still the track time that Tom finds priceless.“We got hung up passing a lapped car about 60 laps into the race.”“The ABR crew gave me a real good car, unfortunately we weren’t able to really show what we had” declared Hessert. After leaving Langley Speedway Hessert took a couple days off for the Memorial Day weekend & headed to Virginia Beach for a little rest & relaxation before getting back at it.This past weekend Tom headed to New Jersey Motorsports Park (NJMP) in Millville, NJ & spent some time in a friend’s old ARCA car.“What can I say” offered Hessert “if I get a chance to have more time behind the wheel I’ll jump at that chance”. “I’m really looking forward to Pocono this weekend” stated Hessert.“We’re still moving on the momentum we created with our first podium finish at Toledo a couple weeks back”.“I didn’t have real good luck last year at Pocono in 2008.Tom blew a motor in the June race & blew a tire in the August race.“2009 is a new year though & so far we’ve accomplished a lot this year with our first poll at Talladega & our third place finish at Toledo.”“I’m looking to continue with that momentum into Pocono.I’ve always liked coming to Pocono it’s so close to home & my family is able to come to the track to show their support. It would really mean a lot to be able to get my first win this weekend with so many of my friends & family there.
Before heading to Pocono this weekend Tom took a chance to get back to his roots a little bit.The USAC midgets that Tom spent so many years running were scheduled to make three appearances in Pennsylvania this week. The midgets were at Grandview Speedway on Tuesday June 2nd, Williams Grove Speedway on Wednesday June 3rd & will be at Big Diamond Raceway on Thursday the 4th.Tom was at Grandview on Tuesday night to see Jesse Hockett win the event & was planning on going to the Williams Grove event before it was cancelled due to rain.“I love going back to watch the Midgets run on dirt.“Grandview always put on a great show so I was happy to be able to see USAC run there before getting back in the seat myself” affirmed Hessert.
Team Manager Andy Belmont had this to add going into the Pocono ARCA 200 this Saturday at Pocono Raceway.“We are looking to continue our ARCA series momentum. ABR has brought in engineering support, we have experimented and tested and we continue to grow the program as the bar has been set so high in the series.Tom ran a Pro cup race, tested at Caraway & ran a little at NJMP during the ARCA RE/MAX Series break he is trying to stay sharp and just get as many laps as possible. We’re ready for Pocono, and our first win. What better track to do it at then a track so close to not only Tom’s home town but my home town?”
After the completion of the Pocono ARCA 200 Tom and ABR teammate Kevin Belmont will head over to West End Quarter Midget Racing Association (WEQMRA) for an American Cancer Society Benefit.Jack Culbertson is a six year old quarter midget driver at the track who was diagnosed with stage four neuroblastoma three weeks ago.The benefit is to be held in Jack’s name this Saturday June 6.Along with a Chinese auction the track will be hosting a marrow drive from 9-11 Saturday morning.Tom and Kevin will be at the quarter midget track to spend some time watching the races with Jack along with an autograph session at 5pm.
